Good morning.
After 5 years I had the Kyleena cartridge removed, we put a new one on the same day. Can I have intercourse without additional protection or is it better to use additional contraception?
The doctor said that I could have normal intercourse because it was a continuation, but my friend in another office, after taking it out and putting it on the same day, that she should use additional contraception for the next cycle. Hence my question.

According to the leaflet that comes with the Kyleena IUD:
"The system can be replaced with a new one on any day of the menstrual cycle. Kyleena will then work right away."
There is no need for an additional method of contraception after replacing the Kyleena IUD.
