Menstrual bleeding and lower abdominal pain such as menstruation, as well as bleeding, intermenstrual spotting may occur during the use of Mirena for up to 3-6 months after application. If, on the other hand, bleeding intensifies, occurs more often and more abundantly, it is a reason to remove/replace the intrauterine device (but this is decided by the attending physician). The bleeding itself can also have another cause, hence medical consultation is necessary. With each month of application of the system, there should be a gradual reduction in the number and number of days of bleeding. In some women, there is a complete disappearance of menstrual bleeding.
