According to the manufacturer: "The Mirena system is inserted into the uterine cavity and remains effective for 6 years in the indication of pregnancy prevention and 5 years in the indication of idiopathic excessive menstrual bleeding." However, it should be borne in mind that in the sixth year of using the IUD, the contraceptive effectiveness may already be reduced.
