It is not recommended to open Itrax (itraconazole) capsules because the drug has a special pharmaceutical form to ensure adequate absorption.

The capsule is designed to reach the stomach and sometimes further to the intestines and release the substance to be absorbed there. By opening the capsules and swallowing only their contents, we lead to a situation where some of the active substance settles for some time in the throat and esophagus. It is also exposed to hydrochloric acid from the stomach and digestive enzymes for longer. It follows that such a procedure may affect the absorption and effective action of the preparation.

Nevertheless, since it is a gelatin capsule whose breakdown is not affected by pH, if you are unable to swallow it, you can pour its contents onto a spoon and dissolve/hang it in a small amount of water. If, on the other hand, after using the drug in this way, you observe alarming symptoms from the digestive system (abdominal pain), you should stop the practice and try to swallow the capsule whole or consult a doctor to change the treatment.
