There is no need to check the flow after each needle change. According to the manufacturer: "Always use a new needle for each injection. This can prevent needle blockage, contamination, infection, and inaccurate dosing." "When using a new pen, before the first injection, you should always check the flow."

Both a 5 and 6 mm needle will be suitable.
