My 12-year-old daughter stopped menstruation just 5 months after rapid weight loss. We were prescribed Besins 200 mg. The packaging says do not give to children. Is it a safe drug? I'm afraid to give it

I understand your concerns – Progesterone Besins 200 mg contains progesterone and is indeed not routinely used in children, but sometimes doctors prescribe it off-label based on a specific clinical situation.
Although Progesterone Besins is intended for adult patients according to the manufacturer's recommendations, it is often included in treatment with the consent of the caregiver/parent due to its beneficial therapeutic effect. The doctor has the right to use the drug on the basis of his or her best knowledge and experience, and not on the basis of the manufacturer's indications. It is also a common practice. We wrote more about it here:

If menstruation stopped due to underweight or hormonal imbalance, the doctor may have decided that the benefits of its use outweigh the potential risks. I recommend that you consult your attending physician again, preferably an endocrinologist or paediatric gynaecologist, before starting therapy to confirm the safety and necessity of therapy.
