Should combined contraceptive pills be taken at a strictly fixed time, or is the time important?
12.99 zł

How is it with taking combined contraceptive pills? Some sides say to take at the same time, one by one, and not to skip any pills, others to take them once a day, e.g. in the evening, and the time is less important, and the pills are the same anyway, so the order is not important, as long as the hormonal ones are first and then the placebo.

Up to @Anonim:

Axia Conti contains 24 active tablets and 4 placebo tablets. According to the manufacturer's information, the tablets should be taken every day, more or less at the same time of the day, according to the order indicated on the packaging. The manufacturer does not inform about the time range of taking the pill. As I mentioned below, it is best if it is about the same time due to the lower risk of forgetting to take the pill. However, the manufacturer does not specifically inform about the same time, so if necessary, you can take the pills every day, e.g. in a 2-3 hour window, e.g. between 7-9 p.m. The tablet should be taken with a small amount of liquid if necessary. Do not take breaks from taking the tablets (this may result in reduced protection). As for withdrawal bleeding, it usually begins on the 2nd-3rd day after the start of placebo pills.

The gynaecologist prescribed me Axia Conti, hence my question.

I don't know which specific combined contraceptive pills you have in mind. In the case of medicines containing placebo tablets (without hormones), the tablets are used continuously without interruption (28- and 91-tablet preparations). After taking the placebo tablets, you should start a new pack of the medicine. On the other hand, when taking a medicine that does not contain placebo tablets (21-tablet packs), the tablets are taken continuously, and after taking the last tablet, a 7-day break should be taken. It is recommended to start using combined contraceptive pills on the 1st day of the cycle (the first day of menstruation) - this provides immediate contraceptive protection . This can also be done on the 2nd-5th day of the cycle, but then it is recommended to use an additional method of contraception (e.g. a condom) for the first 7 days.

It is best to take the tablets at about the same time during the day (e.g. +/- 30-60 minutes), this will reduce the risk of forgetting to take the tablet and the occurrence of possible spotting and fluctuations in hormone levels. Most often, manufacturers recommend taking the drug "every day at the same time of day". If you forget to take a pill, the acceptable time in which you can delay taking a pill that does not affect the effectiveness of contraception varies depending on the medicine.
