Hello. Can I combine Boswely Serratta with painkillers, e.g. Anapran, Ibuprofen? My mother uses medications for rheumatoid arthritis, e.g. Methofill SD, can you also use Boswellia Seratte with them?

Preparations containing Boswellia serrata (Indian frankincense) should not be used together with analgesic and anti-inflammatory preparations such as Anapran, Ibuprofen due to the possibility of intensifying side effects, m.in. from the gastrointestinal tract, such as bleeding.

I attach an additional opinion in a similar query:

Before using preparations with frankincense and methotrexate (e.g. Methofill), due to the fact that the effects of combining are determined individually, it is recommended to consult a doctor, who will assess whether in a given case the addition of a plant preparation will have greater benefits or risks.

Foreign literature describes studies of the interaction of preparations with frankincense with methotrexate (contained, for example, in the drug Methofill). According to the data obtained, a probable anti-inflammatory synergistic effect was demonstrated (the total effect of the preparations is greater than the sum of the effects after the use of individual preparations). However, frankincense extracts can affect the immune system, which can weaken the effect of methotrexate. In addition, there may be increased ailments on the part of, for example, the liver, and with a possible combination, it is recommended to carry out regular monitoring of liver function parameters.

To sum up, if you want to introduce an incense preparation into the diet of a person using Methofill and other drugs, it is recommended to consult a doctor beforehand. If you are not able to visit in person, I encourage you to use the teleconsultation, e.g. via the Gdziepolek.pl portal:
