In Poland, only paroxetine is sold in the form of a 20 mg tablet divided in half. Can my doctor prescribe a suspension of a tablet to better adjust the dose during discontinuation?

Such a procedure is not advisable. Paroxetine tablets (e.g. Paroxinor, Arketis) are available as film-coated tablets for oral use and are not intended to be dispersed. There are no official instructions for the suspension of paroxetine tablets or instructions in the summary of product characteristics and package leaflets.
Film-coated tablets have a special coating that protects the active ingredient from being broken down in the stomach or ensures a controlled release of the medicine. Damage to the coating by crushing or suspension may alter the pharmacokinetics and efficacy of the drug and increase the risk of adverse reactions.
The dose of paroxetine during discontinuation is usually reduced by about 10 mg per week. If bothersome withdrawal symptoms occur after reducing the dose, you may consider going back to the previous, higher dose and then continuing to reduce the dose at a slower rate. Discontinuation should be supervised by a physician who will assess the patient's condition and adjust the dose reduction regimen.
