Hepatitis A (hepatitis A) is an infectious disease whose source of infection is most often contaminated water or food, as well as direct contact with an infected person or sexual contacts.
Symptoms of hepatitis A include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flu-like symptoms, and yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice). The diagnosis is made by a blood test for anti-HAV antibodies.
The disease usually resolves on its own – treatment consists of relieving symptoms, rest, hydration and an easily digestible diet. This disease is not usually fatal, but it can lead to complications, especially in the elderly.
