Yes, sertraline can help treat obsessive-compulsive thoughts, and obsessive-compulsive disorder like OCD. It is one of the SSRI drugs that are normally used in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Sertraline (e.g., Zoloft, Asentra) has been proven to be effective in reducing the intensity of intrusive thoughts and compulsions. Sometimes the doses for OCD treatment need to be higher than for depression or anxiety, and it can take up to 8-12 weeks for the effects to take effect.

Thank you very much for your comprehensive answer there.
And will sertraline also work on obsessiveness, intrusive thoughts and compulsive disorders?

Weight gain is a common and important topic in the treatment of SSRIs, especially if you have previously had negative experiences with Paroxetine, which indeed has the greatest potential for weight gain among SSRIs.

Sertraline does not affect body weight in many people — and in some people, it even causes a decrease in appetite at the beginning of treatment.

Citalopram also does not cause as strong a weight gain as Paroxetine, but in some people it can increase appetite after a few months (mainly by improving mood and regulating serotonin).

Paroxetine acts on more receptors than just serotonin (e.g., cholinergic and histamine), resulting in greater appetite and weight gain — Citalopram and Sertraline don't work like that.

If your main concern is weight gain – it is better to choose Sertraline. It is the drug with the lowest weight effect in this group. In addition, if you are sensitive to the metabolic effects of medications, it is worth monitoring your weight regularly (e.g. once a week in the first months).

Mrs. Anna, thank you very much for your exhaustive and beautiful statement. You helped me a lot.
Please, do you still advise which of these drugs can cause weight gain and that you gain weight? I'm afraid that I'll gain weight, after paroxectin I gained 20 kilos. Please advise me.

Both substances — Citalopram and Sertraline — belong to the group of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), but they differ slightly in their action profile.

Citalopram has a stronger calming and anxiolytic effect – it can have a beneficial effect on reducing anxiety and emotional tension, having a stabilizing effect. It is especially recommended for patients with predominant symptoms of agitation, irritability and impulsivity.
If you want to calm down and calm the nervous system as much as possible,

Sertraline, on the other hand, may have a slightly more activating effect, which can be helpful in depression with reduced energy, but in some people it may initially cause slight stimulation. In the case of symptoms with a predominance of apathy or fatigue, it may be a more advantageous choice.

If the goal of therapy is mainly calmness, anxiolytic effects and emotional stabilization, then Citalopram may be a better choice. If anxiety is combined with depression and lack of drive, then Sertraline may work better. Please remember that the final choice of the drug should take into account the patient's individual reaction and doctor's recommendations.

And which of these substances has a more calming, anxiolytic and stabilizing effect?

Both drugs belong to the group of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and have a similar side effect profile. During the treatment, patients may observe both weight loss and increase, as well as weakening or improvement in appetite. This is an individual matter and it is difficult to predict what effect will occur in a particular patient (most people taking these preparations do not observe any fluctuations in body weight at all). It is also worth noting that, for example, improved appetite may be the result of antidepressant effects if the patient has previously suffered from eating disorders accompanying depression.
