Hello
Are antiviral drugs necessary for flu? Is it enough to treat yourself symptomatically? If I don't take antiviral drugs, am I more prone to complications? I'm already after the 3rd day of the flu, would medication still make sense?

Antiviral drugs such as oseltamivir can be used to treat influenza, but their use is not necessary for all patients. In the case of mild or moderate influenza, symptomatic treatment, which consists of the use of antipyretics and analgesics, may be sufficient.
However, if you have risk factors for complications (e.g., chronic diseases, age over 65), your doctor may prescribe antiviral medications to reduce your risk of severe illness and complications.
It is important that antiviral medications are most effective when given within the first 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. After three days from the onset of symptoms, their effectiveness decreases significantly, so their use in this case may be less effective. If you feel worse or have additional symptoms, it is worth consulting a doctor.
