Ossica 150 mg (ibandronic acid) belongs to bisphosphonates and may irritate the mucous membranes of the esophagus and stomach. The concomitant use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or other shielding medications is usually not recommended unless there are medical indications, e.g., acid reflux disease or gastric ulcers. If gastric protection is necessary, PPIs (e.g. omeprazole, pantoprazole) may be considered, but only after consultation with a doctor.
It is also important to take Ossica on an empty stomach with water and stay upright for at least 30–60 minutes to minimize the risk of esophageal irritation.
