The combination of Brintellix (wortioxetine) and sertraline is not recommended without consulting your doctor. Both drugs act on the serotonin system and their use together can lead to an increased risk of serotonin syndrome, which can be dangerous.
Serotonin syndrome manifests itself, m.in, confusion, agitation, fever, sweating, ataxia, hyperreflexia, muscle clonic seizures, and diarrhea. This condition is distinguished by the so-called triad of symptoms, which includes:
* Vegetative disorders, i.e. increased blood pressure, fever, diarrhoea, vomiting and pupil dilation.
* Psychiatric symptoms, consisting of anxiety disorders, feelings of anxiety and confusion.
* Neuromuscular ailments, i.e. recurrent cramps, pain and increased muscle tone.
For this reason, before starting such a combination of treatments, it is recommended to consult a doctor who will assess the potential risks and adjust the therapy in a way that is safe for the patient.
