Mupirox is a skin treatment for the topical treatment of bacterial skin infections caused by mupirocin-sensitive strains of Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant strains and other staphylococci and streptococci. Boston fever, on the other hand, is an infectious disease also known as hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) caused by the coxsackie virus.
Perhaps Mupirox was recommended due to superinfection of lesions caused by a viral infection (Boston fever). However, I cannot be sure of the doctor's intentions.
