For a long time I have been taking amitriptyline and propranolol, ad hoc alpragen. Recently, my condition has deteriorated significantly overnight, in addition to tinnitus, which makes it difficult for me to function. Should such a thing happen at all, if these drugs were supposed to stabilize me? What went wrong? Is the problem somewhere else and should I do additional tests?

Sudden deterioration of health, including the onset of tinnitus, may be related to the side effects of the medications used. Amitriptyline, as a tricyclic antidepressant, can cause tinnitus and other symptoms such as dizziness and impaired concentration. Propranolol, used primarily to treat hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias, can also cause dizziness and other side effects. Alpragen (alprazolam) can lead to balance disorders and drowsiness.
In this situation, it is worth consulting a doctor to assess the current therapy and possibly perform additional tests to determine whether the symptoms are the result of medication or another condition. There is a possibility that the doses of the drugs need to be adjusted or changed to other preparations.
I encourage you to report the symptoms you experience to your doctor, as well as to report the occurrence of an adverse effect of the preparation. Reporting side effects allows you to increase control over medicines available on the market. We wrote more about how and why to report side effects in the article:
