Xarelto is a reimbursed medicine for specific indications:

- Treatment of pulmonary embolism and prevention of recurrent deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in adults;

- Treatment of deep vein thrombosis in people over 18 years of age;

- Prevention of recurrence of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism - after acute deep vein thrombosis in people over 18 years of age

If the above indications apply to the patient taking the drug, then the doctor may write a "senior" prescription and a package of Xarelto 20 mg of 14 tablets (or 15 mg - 14 or 42 tablets) is dispensed free of charge, but only until the end of the year.

It is worth reading the announcement on the website of the Ministry of Health, which shows that from January Xarelto will not be included in the list of free medicines for patients over 65 years of age:

"As of 1 January 2025, the medicinal products with rivaroxaban (Xarelto) and dabigatran (Pradaxa) specified in the reimbursement list will be available for a 30% fee in the above-mentioned clinical indication. At the same time, the Minister of Health informs that the new indication has not been included in the list of free medicines for patients over 65 years of age (the so-called 65+ list). Thus, regardless of the patient's age, the reimbursement of new generation oral anticoagulants in patients with atrial fibrillation will only be possible with the patient's payment, the amount of which, depending on the product, is defined in detail in the announcement of the Minister of Health on the list of reimbursed drugs, foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses and medical devices as of 1 January 2025."

Currently, Xarelto substitutes are available in pharmacies at a much better price, e.g. Xanirva, Runaplax, Zarixa, Bemivlar.
