Information contained in the summary of product characteristics:
"There is a risk of a sudden increase in blood pressure and heart rate during surgery. In the case of elective surgery, methylphenidate should not be used on the day of surgery."
Most procedures performed under general anesthesia require the patient to be on an empty stomach. Taking Medikinet CR without food is not recommended due to the sudden release of the active substance. Bearing in mind the above data, I advise against taking the drug on the day of the procedure.
"Medikinet CR should be taken with or after food to achieve a sufficiently long duration of action and to avoid spikes in plasma concentrations of the active substance. Methylphenidate hydrochloride is absorbed from Medikinet CR much more rapidly when taken on an empty stomach. In this case, the release of the active substance may not be sufficiently prolonged. Therefore, Medikinet CR should not be taken without food."
