Hello, I have been taking the dienogest pill for three months now against endometrisis. Today I asked my doctor if I can take the dienogest in combination with a contraceptive pill. She said no, dienogest prevents me from getting pregnant. Now I'm in a quandary, because the package insert says something else. Can you tell me if it's true what my doctor said?

Zafrilla is indicated for the treatment of endometriosis. Available research shows that most women inhibit ovulation while taking the drug. However, this drug is not a contraceptive and should not be used for this indication.
You should also not use hormonal contraceptives (including birth control pills) while taking it.
If protection against pregnancy is required while using the preparation, non-hormonal methods of contraception, such as condoms, should be used.
