Can birth control pills disrupt the cycle and is a pregnancy test performed 40 days after intercourse reliable?
19.98 zł

Hello. In July, after my period, I decided to take birth control pills, after a month I stopped taking them, because I felt very bad, after them, my period was so strange, today it's been 40 days since intercourse and I was also supposed to get my period, but I don't have it, I did a pregnancy test twice, yesterday and today and it's negative... Could the contraceptive pills have caused something or is it too early for the test?

A pregnancy test performed 40 days after intercourse shows a reliable result - if you were pregnant, two lines would definitely be visible. Hormonal contraception can cause cycle disorders manifested by, for example, a delay in menstrual bleeding, but it is worth doing tests if problems with the regularity of the cycle persist/repeat. You can also discuss with your gynaecologist the possibility of using other contraceptive methods, e.g. a hormone-free coil.

In case of any doubts, I encourage you to use the teleconsultation with a gynaecologist - the service is available on our website in the e-visit tab:
