Good afternoon. Tell me, please. Unfortunately, now it is not possible to take Xyfaxan (for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome), but I have Metronidazole (a cheap analogue). Tell me how effective it is in the treatment of IBS and whether it is worth taking some probiotic in parallel or after. Because I know that it causes a lot of adverse reactions.
Thanks.

Metronidazole is not equivalent to Xifaxan and should not be used interchangeably.
Metronidazole has much broader indications for use and is characterized by a higher risk of side effects m.in. diarrhea - i.e. the drug may exacerbate IBS symptoms.
Metronidazole is usually used for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, not for the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.
If you decide to take Metronidazole anyway, you can add a probiotic.
