No, do not smoke while taking Epclusa (sofosbuvir/velpatasvir). Smoking may affect the effect and effectiveness of this antiviral medicine used to treat hepatitis C (hepatitis C).
Tobacco smoke contains many chemical compounds that can interact with drugs, modifying their blood concentration and therapeutic effects. Smoking cigarettes can lead to a decrease in the concentration of certain drugs in the blood, and thus reduce their therapeutic effectiveness.
In addition, the Epclusa Summary of Product Characteristics does not indicate the possibility of smoking during treatment with this drug. Therefore, to ensure the full effectiveness of hepatitis C treatment, it is recommended to stop smoking completely during treatment with Epclusa.
