If the observed bleeding is menstruation (and not, for example, mid-cycle spotting, which can occur after emergency contraception), you can start contraceptive pills. Starting the pills on the first day of menstruation guarantees protection from the beginning of use. If the drug is used later, additional methods of protection should be used for the next 7 days.
