Diphergan for hay fever. Son 6 years old, weight 20 kg, from a pediatrician with allergic rhinitis received 5 ml of Diphergan in syrup for the night for 10 days. Isn't that too long? Is it a safe dose?

The duration of treatment with Diphergan syrup as well as the recommended dose is determined by the attending physician on the basis of, m.in the patient's medical history. For allergic diseases in children between 2 and 12 years of age, 0.125 mg of promethazine (the active substance of Diphergan) is recommended per kg of body weight every 4-6 hours. For a child weighing 20 kg, this means 2.5 mg of promethazine (2.5 ml of syrup) every 4-6 hours, which can be 10-15 ml of syrup when administered once.
