Good morning. The doctor prescribed me xifaxan for sibo. But he prescribed me a high dose of 4x2 tablets. Nowhere have I found information about such high doses. Is it safe?

How long have you been taking this medication and has it actually helped? I also got such a high dose for 14 days.

According to the Xifaxan Summary of Product Characteristics, the recommended dosage for rifaximin-sensitive bowel infections is 3x1tabl. (600mg) to 3x2tabl. (1200mg). Available publications explain that the use of a daily dose of 1600mg (4x2tabl.) is significantly more effective than 1200mg in the course of SIBO. In view of this information, the dosage recommended by the doctor seems to be correct. If you have further doubts about the dosage of XIfaxan, I encourage you to contact your doctor.
