Grapefruit contributions are enzyme inhibitors. They inhibit the action of the cytochrome P450 isoenzyme Cyp3A4, which is responsible for the metabolism of many drugs. Bisoprolol (the active substance of Bibloc) is metabolized by this isoenzyme, therefore it is not recommended to drink grapefruit juice or consume it in any other form during treatment with this drug. Such a combination slows down the metabolism of Bibloc and may lead to an increase in its side effects.
