PPIs are used to treat gastritis to facilitate the healing of lesions of its mucosa. The key issue to cure gastritis, however, is to determine and eliminate the factor causing inflammation, e.g. by eradicating Helicobater pyroli, or limiting the consumption of alcohol and drugs irritating the gastric mucosa. The baking soda test you mentioned is not reliable and should not be the basis for diagnosis or evaluation of treatment. Its results depend not only on the amount of gas emitted, but also, m.in, individual sensitivity to the content of gastric contents, the state of tension of the gastric muscle and its stretching at rest or peristalsis of the esophagus and stomach. In the absence of effects of the prescribed treatment, I encourage you to consult your doctor again and report any doubts. Thanks to this, if necessary, the doctor will be able to modify the treatment accordingly and dispel your doubts.
