Medroxyprogesterone acetate (a substance contained in the injection) administered parenterally to women in the recommended dosage, inhibits the secretion of gonadotropins, which prevents the maturation of Graafian vesicles and ovulation, and also leads to a decrease in the thickness of the endometrium mucosa and causes an increase in the density of cervical mucus, which prevents sperm from entering the uterus - all this is aimed at preventing pregnancy. The drug given in a timely manner (that is, constantly at intervals of 3 months) will cause all these changes in the body and will effectively prevent pregnancy.
