Hello, I have a question my mother is being treated for diabetes, in addition, in January this year they implanted her with a pacemaker. I take medications, including xalerto and diabetes medication. While at the diabetologist, he ordered her a kneeoscopy. Mom received information that she has to leave xalerto for 5 days!! It seems to me that it is impossible because of the condition of mom. Please help.

Among the important activities in preparation for colonoscopy is the discontinuation of drugs that reduce blood clotting (m.in Xarelto) a few days before the procedure, but it should always be consulted with the attending physician (!), sometimes it is necessary to substitute treatment, e.g. small-molecule heparin, but this is decided by the doctor. The summary of product characteristics states: 'If invasive or surgical intervention is required, Xarelto should be discontinued at least 24 hours prior to intervention where possible and on the basis of clinical judgement by the physician. If it is not possible to postpone the procedure, the increased risk of bleeding should be assessed in view of the need for intervention. Xarelto should be restarted as soon as possible after invasive or surgical intervention, provided that clinical situation permits and appropriate haemostasis is achieved as determined by the treating physician." Performing a colonoscopy, without first discontinuing the anticoagulant, carries the risk of hemorrhage. Prevention of colon diseases is very important, so I encourage you to consult your doctor in order to refer for the examination in a safe way.
