3 days ago I finished a 7-day treatment with metronidazole tablets. After finishing the treatment and during it, I have a problem with dry and itchy skin. I hoped that after discontinuation of the drug it would pass, but so far without much difference. Could it be a side effect of the drug that persists after discontinuation or rather look elsewhere for the reason?

This is normal because of the liver. Your body must metabolize the antibiotic and must first cleanse the bacteria through the liver. You need red blood cells now more than ever. I would recommend iron, vitamin a, b12 & forlic acid.
How long and how did it all go for you?
I have had this itching all over my body for 6 years and the vaginal mucosa was the worst affected. This is a mechanical allergy that does not go away with years. And this is a common side effect. Acquaintances who have had this reaction after taking metronidazole vaginal pills, but they are more lucky. I took this drug several times and each time it got worse. But doctors do not know that this is an allergy and it is necessary to cancel the drug. On the contrary, the doctor told me to take 4 pills right away, after which I almost died. Allergies, fever, tachycardia, fainting
Oh I would like the GP to be at least familiar with my health in detail... But it's a pipe dream. Anyway, thank you for your reply ☺️

According to the Summary of Product Characteristics, dryness and itching of the skin is one of the very rare side effects of Metronidazole: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/48758/metronidazol-polpharma-tabletki/ulotka/241222 At this point, I suggest starting with the use of emollient lotions that will restore the comfort of normal skin. If you do not notice an improvement within a few days, I encourage you to talk about it with the attending physician familiar with your health condition in detail. I also encourage you to report the occurrence of side effects of the preparation. Please note that side effects of medicines should be reported to your doctor or individually. By reporting side effects, you help other patients, including your loved ones, who may also need the same medicine one day. This step also allows you to gather more information on the safety of medicinal products and update data on them.
