Naltex można zastosować niezależnie od tego, kiedy ostatnio był spożywany alkohol. Ponieważ jednak lek ma wspomagać utrzymanie abstynencji, pierwszą dawkę można zastosować pierwszego dnia abstynencji alkoholowej (będąc trzeźwym).
