Maxitrol drops or ointment are used to treat inflammatory eye diseases that may be accompanied by infection. Maxitrol is a combination drug that contains antibacterial ingredients and an ingredient that reduces inflammation in the eye. It is not only a "chalazion" drug, although it may be prescribed in the form of an ointment for this indication.
I am attaching a leaflet that will allow you to read the information about the drug provided by the manufacturer:

Since the doctor examined the child and had the opportunity to assess the actual condition of the eye, it seems to me that in such a situation comparing the effects of using the drug in other children (descriptions from the Internet) is not justified and will not allow you to reliably review the doctor's decision. If you have doubts, you can consult a paediatric ophthalmologist or paediatrician during the day (he will certainly be more easily accessible).
