Methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant that works mainly symptomatically by inhibiting excessive nerve reflexes in the spinal cord, resulting in reduced muscle tension and relief from spasms. Its effects are symptomatic and temporary — it helps relieve pain and cramps during use, but it does not remove the cause of the cramps or provide a permanent cure.
After the end of therapy, the spasms may return if their source is not removed (e.g. overload, injury, neurological disease). Metocarbamol helps primarily during symptomatic treatment and rehabilitation, but does not guarantee permanent resolution of cramps after stopping taking the drug.
