Taking both medicines together may increase the risk of side effects associated with carbamazepine (Tegretol). These include, for example, drowsiness, confusion symptoms, hallucinations, nausea, agitation, headache, cardiac arrhythmias, oedema, blurred vision, slurred speech. These effects may or may not occur, it depends on the individual body's response to treatment.

In addition, combining both drugs may result in a weakening of the effect of levetiracetam (Normeg), but this is most likely not clinically relevant.
