My gynaecologist prescribed me the drug Intrarosa to alleviate PMS. Can this drug actually be effective because the leaflet says that it is used in postmenopausal women?

Intrarosa (Dehydroepiandrosterone, DHEA) is a vaginal preparation intended for postmenopausal women to relieve the symptoms of vaginal dryness. It is not standard used or registered for the treatment of PMS (premenstrual syndrome), which has a different pathophysiology and requires different methods of therapy.
If your gynaecologist has recommended Intrarosa for PMS, it is worth consulting this decision, as this drug is not normally used in this indication. If your doctor wanted to recommend this medication off-label, it is worth asking about the reasons for this decision and the possible benefits – sometimes off-label drugs are used, but this should be discussed carefully.
