Is Alvesco suitable for pharyngitis and laryngitis, in a 16-year-old with clear bronchi?

Alvesco may be justified if the doctor suspects an allergic or chronic background of pharyngitis/laryngitis, or wants to have a strong local anti-inflammatory effect. But this is not a typical treatment for acute pharyngitis/laryngitis, in a healthy teenager with clear bronchi.

In adolescents (like a 16-year-old), if the bronchial system is clear but symptoms include hoarseness, coughing without wheezing, and a "burning" sensation in the larynx, your doctor may try an inhaled steroid to relieve inflammation. The doctor could have prescribed Alvesco in the context of chronic irritation of the upper respiratory tract, e.g. in the course of asthma, allergies or recurrent upper respiratory tract infections.

The doctor has the right to use the drug on the basis of his or her best knowledge and experience, and not on the basis of the manufacturer's indications. It is also a common practice.
