Lithium can affect blood glucose levels, causing them to rise or fall. Excessive lowering of glucose levels, which can even lead to coma, is particularly dangerous. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) increases this risk.
Particular caution should be exercised by the elderly and those suffering from kidney failure. If the medications have been prescribed by different doctors, a consultation is advisable to determine whether the medications can be used concomitantly and, if so, whether there is a need to change the dosage.
If both drugs are prescribed by the same doctor, please follow his recommendations. Also, check your blood glucose levels regularly and inform your doctor about any alarming symptoms. If you experience symptoms related to too low blood glucose levels, such as: general weakness, nausea or vomiting, increased heart rate, increased sweating, restlessness and trembling hands, enlarged pupils - eat something sweet, and if the symptoms persist, contact your doctor.
