For abdominal pain, antispasmodics are most often used, which effectively relieve spasms of the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, which is a common cause of pain. Prescription drugs include preparations containing drotaverine (e.g. No-Spa Forte) or mebeverin (e.g. Duspatalin Retard), which have a spasmodic and analgesic effect.

In the case of inflammatory pain, your doctor may prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or other painkillers containing ketoprofen (e.g. Ketonal Forte) or diclofenac (e.g. DicloDuo) however, but their use should be cautious due to possible side effects with abdominal complaints.

Drugs that affect the motility of the gastrointestinal tract, such as Tribux (trimebutin), which regulates bowel function – have a relaxant effect when the intestines are too active and a stimulant when they are too inactive, can be helpful in the treatment of abdominal pain associated with functional disorders. In the case of symptoms such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bloating, a feeling of fullness or functional indigestion, Prokit (itopride) will be helpful. It improves the motility of the upper gastrointestinal tract, especially the stomach – it can be used for the feeling of food retention, nausea and lack of appetite.

If abdominal pain is caused by poisoning or digestive problems, medications that protect the intestinal mucosa, such as a diosmectic (e.g. Smecta) or preparations containing sodium butyrate (e.g. Debutir) to support intestinal regeneration, may also be considered. However, it is always a good idea to consult a doctor before using prescription medications to determine the cause of the pain and choose the appropriate treatment.
