An adult can be vaccinated against meningococci. Usually, such vaccination takes place in primary care, but some pharmacies also offer the service of issuing a pharmaceutical prescription for the vaccine and its administration (for a fee).
The currently available vaccines are m.in.
Bexsero for children and adults up to 50 years of age. It is a vaccine against meningococcal type B.
Nimenrix for children and adults up to 55 years of age and MenQuadfi for children and adults against meningococcal types A, C, W and Y.
However, it should be borne in mind that meningococcal disease mainly affects children up to 5 years of age. Therefore, the legitimacy of receiving the vaccine by an adult should be consulted with a doctor.
