Disulfiram has a long half-life and can persist in the body for up to 1-2 weeks after discontinuation of use. Even after the label is removed, its remains can still circulate in the body, especially if the patient has had it for 3 weeks.

If you have decided to implant disulfiram in order to deal with your alcohol problem, I do not recommend drinking alcohol even after the implant has been removed. This may end up in a return to addiction. However, if you decide to consume alcohol, the safe time interval after the removal of the label is at least 10-14 days, and in some people even up to 3 weeks, depending on the individual metabolism.

Disulfiram blocks the enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde (an intermediate product of alcohol breakdown), which leads to aldehyde poisoning. Symptoms include, m.in, severe headaches, vomiting, tachycardia, shortness of breath, sweating or anxiety. You can read more here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/substancje/disulfiram
