Can Tamoxifen cause flu-like leg pain, with no other symptoms?

Can you experience leg pain when taking Tamoxifen - such flu-like pains? There is no fever or other symptoms, only leg pain after all.

If you stop taking Tamoxifen, your disease may get worse. If you have forgotten the medicine with you, I encourage you to seek advice from your local doctor and buy a new pack of the preparation. You can also ask at your local pharmacy about the possibility of issuing a full-price pharmaceutical prescription for a drug.

You can also take advantage of teleconsultation, e.g. via the Gdziepolek.pl portal:

Then you need to buy the medicine from your local pharmacy.

We wrote about whether, how and when you can stop taking medication in the article:

Thank you for your reply. I also wanted to ask if it makes any difference if you don't take Tamoxifen for a week? Once on a trip I forgot to take it. She has been taking this drug for more than 5 years. Best regards.

Yes, Tamoxifen can cause muscle and joint pain, including in the legs – this is a fairly common side effect. Although they resemble the flu, the absence of fever and other typical signs of infection suggests that it is not a cold or a virus. If the pain is severe, persists for longer or is accompanied by swelling in the legs, it is worth consulting a doctor to rule out more serious complications, such as thrombosis.

I encourage you to report the symptoms you experience to your doctor, as well as to report the occurrence of an adverse effect of the preparation. Reporting side effects allows you to increase control over medicines available on the market. We wrote more about how and why to report side effects in the article:
