Yes, false positive drug test results are possible. Dipstick tests (rapid tests) are less accurate and can produce false positive results. To confirm the result, a more detailed laboratory analysis can be performed (e.g. GC-MS – gas chromatography with mass spectrometry). This can be due to several reasons:

1. Consumption of certain foods or medications - certain substances can cause erroneous results, e.g.:

Poppy – May cause a positive result on opioids (morphine, codeine).

Ibuprofen – May give a false positive result for THC (marijuana).

Cold medications (pseudoephedrine) – May cause a positive result on amphetamines.

Antidepressants (e.g., bupropion, trazodone) – These can give positive results for amphetamines or LSD.

2. Test errors: Strip tests are less accurate and can give erroneous results. If the sample has been poorly stored or contamination has occurred. Substances in the urine can react with the test and cause errors.

3. Health Status: Liver or kidney disease – These can affect the metabolism of substances and cause false results. Diabetes – It can lead to the presence of ketones, which can be confused with certain drugs.

Is it possible for them to show positive results when you have not taken the substance?

Positive result:

The appearance of a band in the control zone C means that the test has been carried out correctly.

On the other hand, the lack of appropriate markings in the OPI, MOR, COC, AMP, MDMA, THC fields signals the detection of all the analyzed substances – opiates, morphine, cocaine, amphetamine, ecstasy and marijuana/hashish.

Negative result:

Colourful stripes appear at all fields. The result means that the presence of the analyzed substances in saliva is not found.

Test 1 (left): positive for amphetamines.

Test 2 (right): Positive for amphetamine and marijuana/hashish.

Test No. 3 (bottom): positive for marijuana/hashish.
