Weight gain has been described with citalopram as an uncommon side effect.
Fluoxetine, on the other hand, can lead to weight loss, but it has not been reported that the drug causes weight gain. More here:
Thus, a higher risk of weight gain exists with citalopram.
However, the response to treatment is individual and not every patient using escitalopram experiences weight gain and not everyone loses weight in fluoxetine.
