Hello, my son felt very bad, he had a fever of 39 degrees, muscle and porridge pain. The doctor did a flu test 3 days ago and it was negative. He was given the antibiotic Azycin. Today I tested him again and it came out with the flu type. B. Should you continue to give him this antibiotic or is it better to stop giving him? I don't know if it works for the flu. My son is a little better, now he has a runny nose and generally weak. Fever only at night about 37-38 degrees.

Influenza is a viral disease. Antibiotics (e.g. Azicin) do not work against viruses. The medicine used to treat influenza is oseltamivir (e.g. Ebilfumin, Tamiflu), but the treatment has been shown to be effective when it is started within two days of the onset of symptoms. In the situation described, another consultation with a doctor should be considered. Usually, flu symptoms begin to disappear spontaneously after a few days and the use of traditional "cold" medicines (e.g. antipyretics) is sufficient. The child should stay at home and be able to fully recover from illness. Untreated flu can cause complications that are more difficult to treat than the primary disease.
In case of any doubts, I encourage you to use the teleconsultation with a paediatrician - the service is available on our website in the e-visit tab:
