Esophageal stricture and other diseases that make it difficult to empty the stomach are a contraindication to the use of Sorbifer Durules due to the risk of mucosal irritation and ulceration caused by too long stay in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. For this reason, persistent reflux accompanied by regurgitation of stomach contents may be a contraindication to taking Sorbifer. Discuss with your doctor the possibility of using a different therapy.
Other products containing iron that will be gentler on the stomach are, for example, Feroplex liquid (available on prescription), Solgar Gentle Iron (without a prescription).
