Good morning.
After the last attack of diverticula pain, the gastroenterologist prescribed, among other things, 3 packages of xifaxan 200mg 28 tabs. each package.
I will add that it was acute inflammation
Is a dosage of 2 tabs every 8 hours until these three packs of the drug are exhausted. I read that xifaxan takes a maximum of 7 days.
Please respond quickly. Best regards

According to the manufacturer's recommendations, the drug should not be used for more than 7 days. This dosage leaflet describes the dosage for the treatment of uncomplicated diverticular disease in adult patients on a high-residue diet: 400 mg (2 tablets of 200 mg) every 12 hours for 7 days.
If necessary, it may be recommended to repeat the therapy every month for the next 11 months, i.e. a maximum of 12 cycles of 7 days. Once the symptoms have completely resolved, the administration should be discontinued.
It is recommended that each re-initiation of rifaximin treatment be preceded by a drug-free period of 30 days. If symptoms worsen or recur during this period, the patient should contact a doctor immediately.
Also, if your doctor has recommended a different dosage of the drug (such as extending the duration of use), I encourage you to consult your doctor again. Perhaps the doctor decided on a different therapeutic procedure in your case, which should be confirmed. The doctor can determine the dosage of drugs individually, even if they do not comply with the manufacturer's recommendations, depending on the patient's condition.
