Does taking tryptophan and inositol before a planned anesthesia procedure need to be stopped?
30.00 zł

Hello
I am taking tryptophan and inositol, I have a planned procedure with anesthesia, is it necessary to discontinue these supplements for this time?

After 2 years of treatment of depression with Dulseia, after about 3 months of break, I take Tryptophan 1250 mg at night and Inositol 1000mg in the morning and lunch. I have been taking tryptophan for 9 months, gradually increasing the dose. And inositol from 3 months. I will ask you to answer the question and whether I am doing it properly. Thank you in advance. / 79 years /

Before surgery, it is necessary to inform the doctor about all supplements and medications you are taking.

Tryptophan can affect the nervous system and interactions with anesthetics, so it is often recommended to stop it a few days before the procedure, but the decision should be made by the anesthesiologist. Inositol is usually safe, but it should also be included in the preoperative history.

By reporting these preparations to the doctor, you ensure safety during the procedure. It is also worth consulting their long-term use with your attending physician, especially at your age and in the context of your history of depression.

The dose of 1250 mg of Tryptophan per night is within the limits of therapeutic use, but it should be ensured that it does not cause excessive sleepiness, stomach upset (many patients complain of heartburn) or interactions with other medications. Long-term use requires medical supervision, especially if you have a history of depression or have used antidepressants, which may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome.

Inositol: 1000 mg twice a day (2000 mg total) is a dose often used in supplementation, especially when supporting mental or metabolic health. However, for older people or those with comorbidities, dose adjustment may be necessary.
