Can 2 tablets of Xifaxan be used for intestinal gas every 4 hours?

The doctor prescribed me Xifaxan 4x 2 tbl for 14 days for intestinal gas. At what intervals should I take it. 2 tablets every 4 hours? The leaflet does not indicate such a high dosage. I would like to add that it was a telephone consultation with a gastroenterologist, without performing tests. Is such therapy safe?

This is not the typical way to dose Xifaxan.

Perhaps the dosage you gave above applies to Espumisan - this preparation is used for intestinal gas in a dose of 2 tablets every 4 hours (i.e. 2 tablets 4 times a day).

The usual dosage for Xifaxan in these cases is 1 200 mg tablet every 8 hours, so it would be best to consult your doctor again to clarify the dosage.
