Short-term intake of low doses of flurbiprofen (the active ingredient in Strepsils Intensiv) will not affect the effect of medicines such as Acard or Prestarium Initio and will not increase the risk of side effects.
The drug can be applied topically in the mouth – for lozenges, up to 5 lozenges per day, in divided doses every 3-6 hours.
It does not matter what the time interval between Acard and Prestarium Initio and Strepsils will be.
Long-term use of high doses of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), e.g. ibuprofen, flurbiprofen, ketoprofen, during treatment with anticoagulants, e.g. Acard, and antihypertensive drugs, e.g. Prestarium Initio, should be avoided.
According to the manufacturer of Strepsil Intense:
"Acetylsalicylic acid: Concomitant intake of acetylsalicylic acid is not recommended, except at low doses (up to 75 mg per day) prescribed by a physician, due to a possible increase in the risk of side effects." – therefore, the use of Acard at a standard dose of 75 mg is acceptable.
"NSAIDs can weaken the effect of drugs diuretics, and other antihypertensive agents may potentiate renal toxicity due to cyclooxygenase inhibition, particularly in patients with renal impairment (patients should be rehydrated). Monitoring of potassium levels in the blood may be required in patients taking concomitant potassium-sparing diuretics." – therefore Strepsils should be used for as short a time as possible and at the lowest effective doses.
