What are the risks of smoking cigarettes during treatment? Bellergot?
12.99 zł

Good morning, I was prescribed lel bellergot 1*1 to minimize side effects when taking antidepressants. Unfortunately, I smoke cigarettes habitually, and this is listed as a contraindication to the use of the drug. What can happen? Shouldn't I then take the above-mentioned drug? Thank you in advance for the reply

Smoking while taking Bellergot can cause various side effects and reduce the effectiveness of your treatment.

Atropine (one of the ingredients in Bellergot) can cause blood vessels to contract, just like the nicotine in cigarettes. Therefore, the risk of increased blood pressure, tissue ischemia, and even heart attack or stroke increases. In addition, smoking cigarettes may increase the side effects of phenobarbital (another ingredient in Bellergot), such as dizziness, impaired concentration and excessive sleepiness.

Nicotine and other toxins from tobacco smoke can also increase the toxicity of atropine, which increases the risk of side effects such as nausea and vomiting, headaches and arrhythmias.

In the long term, both smoking and the use of drugs containing ergot alkaloids can put a strain on the cardiovascular and nervous systems, which in the long term increases the risk of serious diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease or liver damage.

In conclusion, avoiding smoking during Bellergot therapy is highly recommended. If you are having difficulty quitting smoking, it is worth consulting a doctor who can advise you on alternative treatments or offer support in quitting the habit. For the future, it is important to always remember to inform your doctor about addictions and habits that may affect the effectiveness of treatment.

If the side effects you are supposed to take are not that bothersome, it is better to stop taking Bellergot if you do not intend to quit smoking.
